San Andres: Eden of nature

Life is so beautiful in Colombia that cannot be defined into words. It’s a lovely feeling when I think about the wonderful moments at this country. A month vacation to explore as much possible areas of Colombia is not that easy. Still, I managed to grab all excellent and breathtaking sights in various cities of Colombia. This time, I went to see what San Andres has to offer me. San Andres is an archipelago of great tropical islands in the Caribbean. San Andres itself is the largest island. The length of San Andres is 11 kilometres and is 2 kilometres wide. What captivate much at this town are its wide pink and white beaches, coral reefs, coconut trees and of course, the friendly population.

If you are in San Andres, you can easily spend your entire day through sightseeing and enjoying the pleasant weather. Look at the cloudy sky and the panorama of San Andres; from this, you will completely loose you into its charming beauty. Clean blue water, greenery, white sand, and the sky everything blends in a way to give you a nature and scenery, making it one of the well-known and perfect tourist holidays destination. In San Andres Island, the weather remains good, but during the second half of the year, you will experience some irregular storms. The velocity of wind becomes strongest in the months of June and July.

The months of September and October, brings calm weather with water temperature remains within 27 and 30 centigrade grades, which converts San Andres into an ideal place to try some water sports. Due to its unique climate, tourists throng here to enjoy their vacation. Spending a memorable time at this Andres island will make you feel like you are in heaven. The beauty of this Andres island increases due to its flora and fauna as well. There are 76 identified species of migratory birds live, whereas, some 18 residents are there. Besides this, the Andres island has over 273 species of reefs, fishes, and corals. You can easily find some of them in mangroves, forest, keys, and coastal areas.

When I entered the province of San Andres through San Andres Island Airport, I made it a point to stay at the centre of the town, so that visiting the areas will be easier to me. There are plenty of modern hotels could be found that offer magnificent views of the town. Every day, at the early morning I used to went out of the hotel room and wander around the streets of the town to take some magnificent glance of the nature and surrounding. Watching flora and fauna is a great experience, as I saw most of them first time in my life. The Andres island is surrounded by a reef complex that is formed with reefs and lagoons along with a number of hard corals and sponges. Taking a glimpse of such natural miracle was great, so I took my camera with me wherever I have been just to capture every beautiful moments into it forever.

Taking about the speciality of San Andres, I tasted some delicious cuisines here. Almost every dish was made up of sea food, which are favorite to inhabitants as well as among tourists. Something different what I found here is that the food is prepared with the base of coconut. Like the spectacular surrounding, the dishes are also decorated and served to us nicely. As the people here are very friendly, I left no chance to interact with them. The official language of San Andres is Spanish and the predominant culture is Anglo Caribbean. Natives use Creolle language, which is a mix of English and French. Here you will find many religions such as Catholic, Baptist, Christians, evangelical, Muslim, and others.

Remember, if you come to visit this Andres island, you should have a valid passport and a Colombia Visa, which is applicable to foreign tourists. And if you are the Colombian citizen, then the national ID that is Cedula is required to enter the Andres island of San Andres. The town is considered as a duty-free zone where you do not have to pay taxes on anything you buy. So try shopping as much you can. Apart from sightseeing, you should also try some activities at beaches like scuba diving. It is a popular activity, which is practiced by most of the tourists after visiting the town.

Take a tour to the town as I did to get some traditional architecture, restored home, natural cave and Morgan’s Cave, Blowing Hole, and many others. Blowing Hole is a natural phenomenon that attracts most of the visitors. Well, I must say a month vacation was not at all sufficient for me. I was thinking to stay some more days at this breathtaking town and enjoy the glory of nature.
