How to Get to Peru

The Jorge Chavez International Airport at Lima, Peru’s Capital City is the most important one at Peru and some of the major international airlines serve the airport.

Flights again, are the more convenient option to travel within Peru. You can access the Region of Lake Titicaca by boat or ferry. Buses are a cheap option as well.  Peru has a good and scenic rail network.

Alternatively, you can also rent a car to get around the city of Peru.

History, culture and nature are what make Peru a beautiful destination to tour.

Peru, with Amazon Rainforests covering half of its terrains, is home to a variety of wildlife such as Jaguars and the Giant Otters. For nature-lovers, there are many national parks in the country that they can explore. The Manu Biosphere Reserve, located in the southern parts of Peru is home to some exotic wild life like the bears, monkeys, tapirs and the jaguars.

Machu PicchuPeru’s culture is derived from greatest of civilizations that flourished here in places like Nasca Lines and Machu Picchu. This blends with Lima – the metropolis with a vibrant and contemporary nightlife, and presents an amazing fusion of culture and lifestyle. The National reserve of Tambopata is another place worth touring.

Apart from being the Capital City of Peru, Lima is credited for its museums, architectural sites, local music and other such delights. Here you have the scope to execute your mountaineering skills. You also surf or go for traditional fishing at Chicama. Hot springs at Cajamarca’s are other natural attractions of Lima.

Cusco is Peru’s oldest inhabited city and the ancient Inca Capital and has many archaeological delights. As an access to the Incan Empire that includes the Machu Picchu – a sacred citadel and the Urubamba Valley, Cusco is popular among tourists. On the southern coast here is the lion colony of Paracas Peninsula – largest on earth and the Ballestas Islands – a paradise for bird-watchers.

The City of Arequipa or “The White City” is a city surrounded by mountains such as the Volcano El Misti, Iquitos City – the entry point to enter the jungle in Peru and the colonial worship place – the de Santa Catalina. Mancora Beach

Peru is also popular as a sports destination. For mountain trekking and cycling, the Peruvian Andes are good. Sand-boarding can be attempted in the Oasis of Huacachina. Surfing is a major attraction of the waters around Lima, especially in Punta Hermosa. Mancora Beach too is good for surfing.  In Cusco, the Rivers of Vilcanota and Urubama are good for whitewater rafting.

Colca CanyonBesides these sports activities, you can also enjoy boat tours of Lake Tiicaca; explore the Colca Canyons – among the deepest ones in Americas, cruising to offshore Islands like Galgapos and Patagonia glaciers, the hike to Cusco’s Cristo Blanco and a visit to the Lima Zoo.

Besides, there are festivals throughout the year that make Peru all the more vibrant and cheerful.
