GaleriAmazonica has opened in the year two thousand and eight in Manaus. This place is built to rid its traveler n collectors of worries like not getting what is worth their money. The organizations that have teamed up to run this amazing store are a large non profit organization which is called the instituto Scoioambintal. There is also a community association of the Waimiri Atroari indigenous group.

The group promises to make the real thing and responsibly produce the handicrafts by properly remunerated artisans.

He shop looks newly whitewashed. The Teatro Amazonas looks like a beautiful gallery with a gift shop that looks like a very typical souvenir shop. These items are displayed very elegantly and even labeled with information regarding the indigenous group that they are made by. They also inform you about the material used and the person who actually did the work.

You would be surely surprised to know that the mean weave baskets that are used by the women of the waimiri Atroari tribe.

There are different colored hammocks that you can purchase that are made from the Tikuna tribe. The mats that are made from the bare people; are woven from aruma stalks.

South America is well known for its beaches, calming along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. But, the way it’s said that sometimes the large may go unnoticed, many eyes of the world go green to consider South America’s largest part that covers most of its central countries. Amazon rainforests, popularly known as Amazonia, is the world’s largest natural resource remaining till day. It represents 54% of all the area dedicated to rainforests on Earth. This large piece is described as the “Lungs of our Planet” since it is responsible for continuous conversion of carbon-dioxide to oxygen. Thus, 20% of the earth’s oxygen is produced by Amazonia.

The Amazon forests derive the name from the Amazon River, which is considered as life force driving the rainforests. Starting in the laps of Peru, this river flows for more than 4,000 miles, discharging its waters in the Atlantic Ocean, near Brazil. These forests cover an area of about 2.5 million square miles, shadowing up to nine South American countries: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname, or two thirds of the South America continent. If you plan to pay your next adventure visit to SA, this article helps you to get well revised with some of the facts of the Amazon rainforests. Some facts are already described above, now its time for some more.

The birds from the Amazon rainforests account for about one third of the world’s entire collection of bird species, Toucan being the most popular icon – they are found all through Central America to East Argentina, but reach the Amazonia in highest number and diversity in terms of species.

The world’s estimated number of plant, animal and insect species is approximately ten million. More than half of this whole population is gifted to the Amazon rainforesets.

There are many plants that have anticancer properties, extracts of which are used to cure cancer patients. About 70% of these plants are found in this rainforest.

Also, there are edible fruits found in Amazonia, and the number is about 3,000. The natives of Amazon consume 1,500 of these edibles, but for cultivation only 200 are used and this act is based on various logics and factors.

Amazon natives use the plants from Amazon rainforests for various purposes like food and medicine. But over 85-90% of these plants have not yet been put to research study and experiments by modern science.

The initial population by the banks of Amazon, in 1500, was as huge as 6-9 million Amazon natives. By 1900, this reduced to one and a half million. And according to the current estimates made, it is the number 2,50,000 of Amazon natives. This population comprises of 215 ethnic groups with 170 different languages.

Going to the depths of Amazon rainforests, there may be found about 50 Amazon tribes that have not yet had any contact with the world outside theirs.

The adversity of increasing world population hasn’t left the Amazons untouched with harm. About 2,700 million acres of the rainforests are burned every year to accommodate facilities for deforestation.

The sun, the sand, the waters and a song – Brazil is the country of fun, the first, and second, the beaches. There are many beaches along the coast of Brazil. And, not just that – it scenes a wide variety of beaches. Some beaches are the smiling curves near the cities in the map, while some others are far away in the quiet, remote areas, away from the noise of the screaming town. Porto da Barra is one such beach in Brazil to which you can make a perfect escape in the middle of busy city life. It is one of the world’s famous city beaches in Salvador that comes under the state of Bahia, Brazil. Salvador is literally and actually surrounded by beaches, but this particular beach is one of its kind. The waters here soothe the eyes and the mind. Quiet and calm blue-green waters, giving an incredibly clear, prismatic look through ocean – it seems a true oasis. And the best part of it – it’s all well within your reach. You can visit this beach, while being in you hometown. Just a few hops of traveling and you’re there.

Being a city beach, Porto da Barra is visited by local people, in huge numbers, every weekend. The beach is in a bay, and so, the water is calm, crystal clear and clean. As the waters are shallow near the coast, it’s just perfect for swimming. This beach also serves as a destination for artists and musicians – painters capturing the beautiful scenes in their drawings, poets admiring the beauty of the beach in their words and musicians playing and singing music, as serene as the beach waters. In a short word with a big meaning – it’s a mini heaven. Naturally, with all these features, Porto da Barra is a first and favorite choice for the visitors. It’s quite crowded on the weekends. It is not only a place for relaxing for them after a long week of work and stress, but also a chance to hang out with family and friends, and socialize.

Apart from being liked for its salient beach features, Porto da Barra is also famous for being Bahia’s first site of European settlement. They called it the Vila Velha, which means “Old Village”. It used to be a hangout place for artists like Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, and this tradition of continues till day. Like other beaches in Salvador, Porto da Barra also has barracas, or bahacas, where you can buy beverages like beer and other drinks of your choice.

This beach not only attracts the people residing in the nearby city, but also invites visitors from far away. Since the history of this beach shows signs of European settlement, people from all over the Europe come to visit it. You can look out for hotels and resorts near the beach itself, so you get to enjoy the calm life your doorsteps, though for a while. You can choose boarding places that suit your choice, comfort, and budget. There are hotels that provide a good value for good money, or you can have a budget-suited accommodation. Whatever is it, but the main thing is you shouldn’t miss the majestic time that you can spend on this beach.

Your work has got you all caught up and what you really need is to go on a major unwinding spree. Brazil, the fifth largest country in the world.

Take a guide along and indulge in a wild fishing experience. Get your fishing canoe. You might encounter some piranhas, but don’t worry the guide will make sure that, you are safe and that you catch some fish!

There is plenty of fresh fish in the Brazilian waters due to the Igapos- flooded lowlands.

Once you are done with your fill of fishing and you probably have ended up catching a bunch of them. You could then probably head to the Ariau towers.

These towers are made quite exquisitely with seven green towers that are connected by wooden walkways. And around these walkways you will get to see an array of monkeys and parrots. The Ariau towers are about two and a half hour boat ride from Manaus.

There is a variety of budget homes that you could find here. With lush interiors and a very cozy feel to the whole thing. The food here is also pretty good. If you are in the look out of something high end and don’t mind the prices, then you should opt for the Cosmica suite. This suite has gained fame because of bill gates and Susan Sarandon who stayed here during their visit to the region.

Once you are settled in and are looking for more adventure, then head out the to river Negro (you might want to get a hold of that guide once again). In fact you can even make this trip at night just to make it ‘bit’ more wilder! Don’t get caught off guard if you see an alligator or a cayman around. Just be calm enjoy the ride and let the guide do the evading.

What you could also do after the entire river ride is head over to the Brazilian state of Parana and experience the Iguazu falls. A collection of about two hundred and seventy five water falls is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. And gives you a once in a lifetime view of an amazing collection of overwhelming beauty and serenity.

You could get an inflatable boat ride through the Iguazu National Park which would be a two hour boat ride.

If you thought the roller coaster was tough, then this ride would be pushing it over ten times! Out here in Parana, bumping into rocks, cascades and your boat taking really steep dips is just about the beginning of what will get your heart racing.

Among the New Seven Wonders of the World is the Statue of Christ the Redeemer. The statue is on Corcovado Mountain about half a mile from the city of Rio De Janeiro. This 700 meters high mountain looks over the Beach of Ipanema from the Tijuca Forest National Park and offers a spectacular view of the same.

When to tour Brazil

Brazil experiences a tropical climate and hence is good for a vacation at anytime of the year.

How to reach

Rio De Janeiro is a popular tourist destination and is convenient to reach. If you are coming from London, you will have to fly to Miami and then get on a flight to Rio.

In the city, you can trust the buses, minibuses, cars and the metro to get around.

About the statue

The Statue was built in 1931 and was included as one of the Seven Wonders of the World in the new revised list in 2007. Others in this list are the Taj Mahal of India, The Great Wall of China, The Incan Ruins in the ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru, the ancient Mayan City of Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Pink Ruins of Petra in Jordan and the Coliseum in Rome.

This is the largest statue of Christ in the World, with a height of about 32 meters and 700 tons of weight. Reinforced concrete, soapstone for its exterior and about 2,50,000 dollars were used to construct the statue is a span of nine year – 1992-1931. Heitor da Silva Costa gets the credit for the design of the statue. Paul Landowski, French, sculpted the Statue.

The Statue of Christ the Redeemer got a special status on its 75th birthday on October 12, 2006. The Archbishop of Rio, Cardinal Eusebio Oscar Scheid sanctified a small Chapel – “Our Lady of the Apparition” at the foot of the Statue. Being a Roman Catholic Sanctuary since then, it has also been host to religious functions like baptisms and weddings.

Apart from rising to fame because of its size and its declaration as a Catholic Sanctuary, the durability of this statue was put to test and succeeded when a massive storm hit the City of Rio De Janeiro in February, 2008. While there was chaos in the city, the Statue remained un-tempered, courtesy the soapstone, which is an insulator.

Thousands and thousands of tourists come to see this statue every year. A visit and a look at The Statue of Christ, the Redeemer with his arms open as if calling you in his embrace, is definitely a must.

Best time to Visit

Florianopolis has a subtropical marine climate. You will find it the most crowded in the months from December to March, the South American Holiday Season.

How to Get to Florianopolis

The City of Florianopolis is fairly accessible and your flight here lands at the Hercillo Luz International Airport. There is a good road network in Brazil and you can drive to Florianopolis as well. It is about 705 kilometers away from Sao Paulo and 430 kilometers more from Rio de Janeiro. Buses are the cheaper options to Florianopolis and there are buses plying here from Chile and Argentina as well.

Florianopolis Attractions

Beach is the way of life in the South American city of Florianopolis. There are about 42 of them here. Some of the popular one here are the Canasvieiras Beach, the Jurue Beach, Praia do Rosa Beach – known as a surfing destination and the spot to watch whales and dolphins in the nesting season from May to November, the Campeche Beach and the Lagoinha Beach. All these beaches are great for surfing. They are also lined up with cafes, restaurants and other facilities, thanks to tourism.

There are some interesting areas not very far from the city of Florianopolis that you can reach on a short ride by bus. One of them is the fishing village of Porto Belo – known for its tranquil beaches and diving sites. The city of Blumenau where the Germans settled is about 50 kilometers from Florianopolis and is known for the annual Oktoberfest, sausages, sauerkraut and beers! Pomerode town is worth touring too.

While the beaches are the main attractions that bring tourists here, they don’t leave without visiting the museums here. Some of the museums worth a visit here are the Museu Historica that’s in the Baroque Palace – dating back to the 18th century, the Museu de Armas Major Lara Ribas and the Museu de Antropologia.

Strolling around the streets of Florianopolis can be fun in itself. Squares, public markets, restaurants and fine drinking scenes, shopping malls, cinemas and the Mercado Publico – all of these breathe life into this South American City.

Festivals held through the year make this city all the more vibrant and brings you closer with the culture. October is the time for Oyster and Azorean Culture Festival and during the Carnival here, you have the Pop Gay Festival where trans-genders compete for best dress-up, the Bloco dos Sujo – where the straight men dress up as women and walk amidst crowds cheering in their support and the Samba- dance as well as competition – that’s integral to any of the Brazilian Festivals.

Sao joaquim National Park of Florianopolis is where you should head to see a variety of wild life of America as well as flora.

Take some time out for a historical tour to the Ratones Grande Island and Anhatomirim Island, home to the 18th century- cities of Santo Antonio and Santa Cruz. The waters here are inhabited by a flourishing community of dolphins.

Florianopolis is definitely the destination to book your tickets to, if your idea of a vacation is beaches and just that, except for some few diversions.
