How to reach Bogota

You enter the city through the well-connected and well-served El Dorado International Airport. Taxis, buses and other usual means of transport are the ways to get around Bogota.

Bogota is known for its historical sites and landmarks.

With about 50 museums such as the Museo del Oro, it is a cultural center of Columbia. The Plaze de Bolivar, city’s main square, is a good starting point to see what Bogota has for tourists. The Museo del Julio, the Cathedral dating back to the 19th century, Capitolio which has a neo-classical style and the Casa de Narino – the Palace, are some of the architectural delights of Colombia. Other monuments here include the statue of Simon Bolivar in the heart of the square and the Palacio de Justicia.

A major cultural center, at par with world standards here is the Teatro Colon. On Monserrate, you have souvenir shops, two of the city’s finest restaurants and Santuario de Monserrate – a figure of the fallen Christ dating back to the 17th century. While the pilgrims climb up the slopes of Monserrate to pay their homage, you can cable ride your way up and have a spectacular view of the city of Bogota.

Churches such as the La Candelaria Church and the El Centro Historico Church, date back to the colonia era and reflect the same and are also the attractios of this Capital City.

For touring the city, while experience the romance of your journey, get on to the Colombia’s only steam train – the Tren Tiristico de la Sabana. Adding fun to this train journey is papayera band performances and Andean band music along with hot chocolate and someLa Zona Rosa more of good Colombian food.

From Bogota, you can make a day’s trip to other attractions nearby like the Zipaquira salt mines that also has a cathedral.

For shopping, head to Plaza San Vitorino. Usaquen is another area here in Bogota that you should tour for historical buildings and hang-out places. For a posh nightlife, Bogota has La Zona Rosa and Parque 93. Avenida Chile and La Zona G are other posh areas of this city.

For a nice evening, with friends and family, you can visit the Parque de la Independencia. The Park has a Café, a planetarium and you can also have live rock or classical music performances now and then, making your evenings great.

Bogota bullfightingFor the sporty travelers, there are some good biking trails stretching to about 300 kilometers, trekking and rock climbing as well. Bullfighting is another event of attraction held in January-February. Soccer is very popular here, as it is in most of the Latin American countries.

With a good nightlife, sports activities and of course the historical landmarks, a trip to Bogota should definitely be a consideration when you are planning your itinerary to the South American Country of Colombia.  It’s worth a visit.
